The
capital city of Goa, Panjim is centrally located and provides easy
access to the attractions of both North and South Goa. It faces the
left bank of the Mandovi River and is always pleasantly breezy even
at the height of summer.
Panjim is a bustling centre of culture and government but retains a
small town feel with its small winding streets and outdoor cafés.
The areas of Fontainhas and San Thome in Panjim are reminiscent of
the days of the European presence in Goa with their brightly
coloured walls and wrought iron-grilled overhanging balconies.
Panjim is an excellent place to shop with a number of clothing
boutiques as well as Goan staples like cashewnuts and fenny – liquor
distilled from the fermented juice of the cashew fruit. |
